Round Rock Express News Release

The Coolbaugh Family Invitational got its first highlight Sunday night. Thankfully for the Round Rock Express, that highlight came off the bat of Mike Coolbaugh and ended up on the left field berm.

Coolbaugh's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Express the lead and proved to be the winning runs in an 8-4 decision over the El Paso Diablos, managed by his brother Scott.

9,584 at The Dell Diamond saw the Diablos plate a run in the second on an RBI single by Sergio Santos and grab El Paso's first lead against Round Rock in 23 innings. Express scored twice in the fourth to retake the lead, but lost that when the Diablos scored a combined three runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

That was before Mike got his first edge in personal bragging rights. Chris Tremie hit a home run deep in the left field corner to close the gap to 4-3. Mike came up two batters later and lined a Ryan Holsten pitch deep into left centerfield for his third home run since joining the Express.

He was a thorn in his brother's side all night, going 3 for 5 with the home run and a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

That was enough for Ruddy Lugo (3-10) to get the win on behalf of a salty bullpen performance. Lugo and Jory Coughenour combined to throw 3.2 shutout innings. Coughenour recorded his third save. Holsten (2-8) took the loss.

The series will continue Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
