Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sugar Skulls announce the signing of quarterback Byron "Peewee" Jarrett for the upcoming 2025 Indoor Football League season. Jarrett, a standout from the University of West Florida, will make his professional debut as the Sugar Skulls aim to strengthen their offensive lineup.
Head Coach Billy Back said, "Byron is a top-notch big boy QB. He's a player we were in contact with last season and think has a very high ceiling for this level and beyond. He's a true leader, and that's something we lacked at that position all of last season."
Jarrett brings an impressive track record to Tucson. While at West Florida, he demonstrated versatility and leadership, amassing 2,719 passing yards in 2022, averaging 194.2 yards per game. He finished the season with 33 passing touchdowns and completed 51.4% of his passes, culminating in 3,481 yards of offense and 42 touchdowns overall.
Before his time at West Florida, Jarrett shined at Iowa Central Community College, earning NJCAA First Team All-America honors in 2021. He was named the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ICCAC, throwing for 2,704 yards, with a 61.7% completion rate and 30 touchdowns. His performance led him to average an impressive 245 passing yards per game.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Jarrett began his football journey at Hoover High, where he accumulated 5,000 passing yards and 50 passing touchdowns during high school. He also set a school record for most passing yards in a single game with 547.
