AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox got huge offensive contribution from Matt Tucker with five hits and four RBI while Tim Alberts added three RBI as well in the Sox 17-6 blowout of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains on Monday night in front of 5,426 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Sox starter Travis Lawler (4-2) got the win, allowing just three runs off three hits in five innings pitched. Captains starter Osvaldo Rodriguez (3-2) got the loss, allowing eight runs off seven hits in an inning and a third.
The Sox wasted no time in taking the lead in the first inning. Fehlandt Lentini led off with a double and scored on a Matt Tucker RBI double. Following a pass ball to move Tucker to third, Cyle Hankerd grounded out to score Tucker. With the bases empty, Van Pope walked, went to second on a Tim Alberts single and scored on a throwing error. Following a walk to Adam De La Garza, Kevin Butler reached on an error to score Alberts from second. Jason White capped off the inning with an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
Amarillo added three more in the second on RBI singles by Hankerd and De La Garza, while Alberts added an RBI on a groundout for an 8-0 advantage.
The Captains and Sox exchanged runs in the third. Shreveport-Bossier got their run on an RBI double by Alex Cowart, while Lee Cruz hit an RBI single for Amarillo in the third for a 9-1 score.
Shreveport-Bossier added two in the fourth on a two-run homerun by Brian Peterson, but Amarillo broke back with a solo homerun from Alberts and a bases loaded triple from Tucker. Chris Nash added an RBI groundout for a 11-run Sox advantage. More runs would follow for Amarillo as White added another RBI single in the fifth for a 15-3 lead.
The Captains added three runs in the eighth, including a two run homerun from Andres Rodriguez, but the Sox proved to be too much. Nash and Alberts each added a sacrifice fly in the eighth as the Sox ended the game with a 17-6 victory.
With the win, the Sox improve to 25-24 while the Captains fall to 26-23.
