Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston starter Sung-Wei Tseng (3-6) picked up his third win in his last four starts, combining with Mike Finocchi for a 5-0 shutout of Wilmington on Tuesday night. Tseng went six innings, giving up just four hits and not walking a batter. Finocchi picked up his third save of the season, giving up just one hit in three innings of work. It was the fourth shutout for the Kinston pitching staff this season.
The Kinston bats handed Wilmington ace Rowdy Hardy (10-2) his second loss of the season. Hardy came in with a 1.51 ERA, the lowest mark in the Carolina League, but Kinston got him for five earned runs on eight hits. Hardy's only other loss of the season came against Kinston back in June, when the K-Tribe banged out eleven hits for five earned runs. Hardy has allowed just 21 earned runs this season, but ten of them have come from K-Tribe bats. Stephen Head started the scoring in the third inning, with a two-out single scoring Josh Rodriguez. Rodriguez started the inning with a single, and then advanced to second base on a Jose Constanza sacrifice bunt. Kinston would get another two-out RBI single from another Head in the fifth inning. This time Jerad Head drove in Mike Butia with the hit, putting Kinston up 2-0. The K-Tribe added three more runs in the sixth, with RBI from Mike Butia and Rodriguez. Rodriguez and Hodges each had two hits for the K-Tribe.
Kinston will return to Grainger Stadium for a 7pm start on July 4th. Kinston will send K-Tribe newcomer Steve Wright to the hill for his second start of the season. Ticket sales are heading towards a sellout, so it is recommended that those wanting to go to the game give the ticket office a call at 252-527-9111 Wednesday morning or go to www.kinstonindians.com . There will be July 4th fireworks show after the Wednesday night game.
