Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville snapped their three-game losing streak on Friday night by rallying in the eighth inning to beat Savannah 3-2. Tyler Anderson pitched very well and received a no-decision while the Tourists bullpen threw 3.1 scoreless frames.

In the second inning, the T's took a 1-0 lead on Ryan Casteel's two-out RBI single to center. Jordan Ribera raced home from second base and slid in just underneath the tag attempt from Sand Gnats catcher Albert Cordero. Asheville did not manage another hit until the eighth inning.

In the sixth, Savannah put together a rally off Anderson; who cruised through the first five frames. Tyler walked the lead-off hitter and Matt Reynolds followed with a single. After a strike-out, Cam Marin singled through the infield and plated the tying run. The Sand Gnats took the lead short after when Anderson through a wild pitch. The Tourists lefty turned the game over to the bullpen and exited with a season-high eight strike-outs.

The visitors had a chance to put the game away in the top of the eighth. Nelson Gonzalez loaded the bases with no outs, but Asheville's reliever found a way to work out of the jam. Dustin Lawley hit a groundball to Taylor Featherston and the shortstop went home to pick up the force out. The next batter, Greg Pron, grounded into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double-play. Gonzalez ended up with the win.

In the bottom of the eighth Jose Rivera singled off Domingo Tapia, which snapped a string of 14 straight retired by the Gnats righty. Tapia then hit Trevor Story and Brian Humphries followed by reaching on an error. The miscue allowed Rivera to score, tying the game 2-2. Tyler Massey then drove in the winning run as he scored Story from second with a single to left.

Jefri Hernandez worked the top of the ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.
