PREVIEW: After a 3-3 homestand, the Shorebirds hit the road for a four game series against Greensboro. The Shorebirds are in Greensboro for the first time since mid-April (April 19-21). This is the first meeting of the second half with Greensboro. With 31 games left in the season, the Shorebirds are six games out of first place in the Northern Division.
GAME #100: Jason Esposito played in his 100th game last night. Manny Machado (103) and Robbie Widlansky are the only other players in the O's minors that have reached 100 games.
NEW PITCHERS DEBUT: Over the last two games, three new Shorebirds relievers have debuted. Juan Guzman earned the win over three innings on August 1. He yielded two hits and one run. Last night, Bobby Wilkins went two innings and gave up two hits and no earned runs. Alex Schmarzo followed Wilkins and went one inning and gave up three hits and four runs.
MIKEY PLANETA LEADS TEAM: Mikey Planeta leads the Shorebirds with a .256 batting average. He was the only player with multiple hits yesterday (2-for-4). Planeta has hit safely in nine of his last ten games.
BERNADINA: Roderick Bernadina, the cousin of Nationals outfielder Roger, has hit safely in four of five games with the Shorebirds. He went 0-for-3 last night.
LAST 11 GAMES, W/L DIFFERENTIAL: The Shorebirds are 5-6 in their last 11 games. In their five wins, they have outscored their opponents 41-19 (22 runs). In their six loses, they have been outscored 50-6 (44 runs). They have 32 total hits in the six losses (5.33 per).
ON ROAD: The Shorebirds are 6-7 on the road in the second half. They went 12-21 on the road in the first half.
