Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Rome Braves jumped out to an early lead en route to their franchise record-setting 12th consecutive win, a 9-1 thumping of the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

Braves starter Alex Moore (2-2) held the Intimidators hitless into the fifth inning en route to his second career win. Moore struck out a career-best eight while walking one, allowing a run on two hits over 5.0 innings.

Rome jumped in front in the second inning as Robby Hefflinger, Kyle Kubitza and Will Skinner opened the frame with a double, a single and a double for a 2-0 lead. Hefflingler tacked on a run-scoring double in the third inning and finished his night 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.

Braves second baseman Ross Heffley broke the game open with a three- run home run (2) in the fourth inning, effectively ending Intimidators starter Jarrett Casey's night. Casey (4-5) allowed six runs on eight hits over 4.0 innings, striking out four and walking one in a losing effort.

Joe De Pinto broke up Wood's bid for a no-hitter with a two-out single in the fifth inning, and Leighton Pangilinan doubled De Pinto home from first for the Intimidators only run.

Kannapolis native and former A.L. Brown Wonder catcher Ryan Query added a two-run double for the Braves in the ninth inning, finishing his night 2-for-4 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Intimidators catcher Martin Medina went 0-for-3 with a walk, snapping a streak of hitting safely in 28 consecutive games in which he started, dating back to June 4. Medina, who spent the majority of his streak as the team's second catcher, hit safely in a league-best 19 straight games before entering a July 21 game in the seventh inning to replace an injured team and going 0-for-1 at the plate. He followed that night by hitting in each of his next nine game coming into tonight.

Kannapolis and Rome play the second game of this four-game series on Saturday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium as LHP Matt Lane (3-4, 5.60) takes the mound for the Intimidators against RHP A.J. Holland (2-7, 4.76). For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
