Brampton Steelheads News Release

As the summer season was getting into full swing in the month of June so were Sauga and the "Travelling Trout" events team as June proved to be an even busier month than May.

The first stop on the "˜Trout and About' events schedule for June was at the YMCA Oakville Kids Day on June 1st. The day was filled with various events and activities for kids and their families to emphasize the importance of healthy living habits.

Sauga and the "Traveling Trout" were then spotted at the annual Bread & Honey Festival in Streetsville on both June 7th and 8th. It was a weekend full of fun and excitement for all who attended. It was also an opportunity to celebrate Mayor Hazel McCallion as she will be retiring after four decades of public service.

While the "Travelling Trout" were at the Bread & Honey Festival on June 8th, Sauga and the rest of the event team were at the JDRF Telus Walk for the third year in a row cheering on all the participants as they aimed to raise money to find a cure for diabetes.

Next, the Steelheads spent time with Mississauga Ward 9 Councillor, Pat Saito as she held her annual senior's fair on June 10th. The day was an opportunity for senior citizens and their families to spend time together and get information from over 25 agencies and organizations on senior care in Mississauga.

The "Travelling Trout" then visited Forest Avenue Public School as they celebrated their annual Fun Fair on June 13th. Sauga was out in full effect as he spent time with students and their families, teachers and even members of Mississauga's Fire Department. The fair was full of events for everyone to participate in as well as a chance for the school to raise money and donations for future school projects.

On June 14th and 15th Sauga was seen attending the annual Waterfront Festival in Port Credit. Fans were able to take shots at the Steelheads giant inflatable shooting gallery while enjoying live music as well as other events at the festival. Also on June 14th Sauga made a special appearance at the grand re-opening of the Don McLean Outdoor Pool. All the water made him feel right at home as he spent time with all the swimmers that attended the opening.

On June 15th the Steelheads visited Mississauga Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca as she hosted her summer BBQ. Attendees were treated to delicious food while Sauga spent time with fellow mascots POW of the Mississauga Power and Pachi the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.

The "Travelling Trout" continued their school outreach with a visit to St. Valentine Elementary School on June 17th for their annual community BBQ. The event was full of good food and good times as staff and students looked to raise funds for the school.

The following day on the 18th Sauga and the "Travelling Trout" were seen at another school event, this time at Kenollie Public School for their annual Dad's BBQ. Students, friends, and family of Kenollie P.S. had fun with Sauga and inflatable shooting gallery while also raising funds to help out the school. With the school year winding down, the Travelling Trout wrapped up school visits on June 19th at Twentieth Street Junior School in Etobicoke for the school's Spring Fling.

On June 21st the "Travelling Trout" were joined by Steelheads players Spencer Martin, Stefan LeBlanc, Damian Bourne, and Bryson Cianfrone at the Alex Shapiro Fighting Eagle Memorial Hockey Tournament at George Bell Arena. This was the inaugural tournament held in honour of Alex Shapiro, a member of the Toronto Eagles who passed away in 2013 from Undifferentiated Sarcoma, a rare form of childhood cancer. The two day tournament raised over $22,000 for SickKids Hospital in Alex's Memory.

The Steelheads wrapped up June events by taking part in the Peel Regional Paramedic Services Invitational Charity Golf Tournament. The "Travelling Trout" spent time with the golfers as they hit the links while also raising money for a worthy cause. All the money raised was donated to the United Way as well as the Dreams Take Flight charity.

Along with appearing at events in the community this summer, the Steelheads will be giving fans the chance to win either 4 tickets to a 2014-15 Steelheads home game or a night in one of our corporate suites (12 people) by filling out an entry form for a draw. Winners for the 4-ticket prize are drawn after each event the Steelheads attend while the draw for a night in the corporate suite takes place at the end of each month.
