Niagara IceDogs News Release
NORTH BAY, ON - The IceDogs visited North Bay this afternoon to top-off their northern road trip and 3-in-3 weekend. The matinee matchup began with a three goal opening period and put the IceDogs in a hole they were unable to climb out of, resulting in a 4-0 final.
Starting Goaltenders: Owen Flores (NIAG), Charlie Robertson (NB)
At just 4:16 into the opening frame, North Bay struck first on the powerplay as Arnsby batted the rebound out of the air to take the lead. Under two minutes later the Battalion extended their lead by a pair and eventually would net one more before the first 20 minute stoppage. Owen Flores stood tall for the entirety of the period, including the first 6 minutes of play where he had already registered 10 stops. Total period shots read 21-4 in favour of the home team.
The IceDogs would begin the middle frame with 1:54 of powerplay time after a late high-sticking call to Kyle McDonald of North Bay. Despite holding the majority of puck possession on the man-advantage, the IceDogs could not make anything of it against the number 1 penalty killers in the league. No goals came for either side in the second period with credit to IceDogs net-minder, Owen Flores stopping all 12 shots for a two period total of 33.
The best IceDogs chance in the third came from Zak Lavoie who was awarded a penalty shot chance but was ultimately denied down low by rookie net-minder, Charlie Robertson. Any empty net goal from the home team would close the game with a 4-0 score.
The IceDogs will be back in action at home on Thursday hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs while sporting their fan designed Real Canadian Superstore jerseys and beginning another 3-in-3 weekend.
