Norfolk Tides News Release

May 1, 2008 - Indianapolis took advantage of two Norfolk errors in the 9th inning as they edged the Tides 5-2 Thursday night from Harbor Park.

With the score tied at 1-1 entering the final frame, Matt Kata led off with a single to right and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Josh Wilson then worked a walk from Tides reliever Esteban Yan (0-2), and Jorge Cortes followed with what looked to be an inning-ending double play grounder to shortstop Mike McCoy. McCoy couldn't handle the grounder, and Kata came in to score the go-ahead run. After a walk to Andrew McCutchen loaded the bases, Neil Walker followed with a two-run single to center to put the Indians up 4-1. The Tribe plated another run in the inning one batter later on a fielding error by Tides third baseman Mike Costanzo.

Norfolk's offense was led by Chris Heintz, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Costanzo also had a strong night at the plate, as he doubled and scored in the 7th inning and tripled and scored in the 9th.

Tides starter Andy Mitchell turned in a very solid outing in his first start of the season. Mitchell allowed just one run on six hits in five innings as he lowered his ERA to 2.45. It was just the 14th start in 298 career minor league games for the 29-year-old.

The loss was Norfolk's third straight after a three-game winning streak, and was the fifth in five games against Indianapolis this season.

The Tides and Tribe square off again Friday night from Harbor Park, with Norfolk slated to send southpaw Craig Anderson (1-0, 5.64) to the hill opposite Indians right-hander Adam Bernero (NR). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
