Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers were still on a quest for their first victory of the 2023 preseason stretch in their final home before their home opener on October 7th, 2023. After falling in hard-fought battles with the Lincoln Stars and defending Anderson Cup Champion, Fargo Force, tonight was the Tri-City Storm, who were moving into their fourth preseason game after going 2-1-0-0 in this past weekend's "Lancer Bowl" at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
Tri-City wasted no time finding the back of the net as Nolan Roed beat Lancers' netminder Mikhail Yegorov glove-side just ten seconds into the matchup.
That was followed up by a 2-on-1 rush, resulting in a Nick Peluso goal at the 4:45 mark of the period.
As the Lancers believed they stopped the bleeding, August Falloon tickled the twine with a one-timer goal off a feed from below the goal line by Owen Beckner to send the Storm into the first intermission with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Outside of scoring, the Lancers were neck-and-neck with Tri-City in every other statistic. Including face-off percentage (55%) and shots on goal, as the Storm led 11-10.
Jack Olson got the call to start the second period of play between the pipes for the Lancers and managed to hold off the momentum of the Storm offense, stopping 19 of 20 second period shots.
The lone goal of the period was scored at the 3:23 mark of the period as Cameron Briere moved the puck out front to Easton Pace who tipped in his first goal of the preseason, extending the Tri-City lead to four goals through two periods.
The final period brought on scoreless hockey as Cameron Korpi racked up 29 saves on the night to seal his first shutout of preseason play, as well as Jack Olson turning away ten more Tri-City shots as he completed the night with 28 saves on 29 shots, good for a 0.966 save percentage.
The silent third period led the Storm to a 4-0 victory, improving their preseason record to 3-1-0-0 as the Lancers sit back at 0-3-0-0.
The Lancers hit the road this Friday to take on the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM CST.
