
Tri-City Wins Big over Boise

The Boise Hawks (22-21) fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils (20-23), by a final score of 11-5. Tri-City takes the first two games of the series at Memorial Stadium and they have averaged 10 runs in the first two games thus far.
For the 2nd night in a row, Tri-City scored first. Luis Asuncion hit a cue shot back to Boise starter Javier Medina and the right-hander lost it. On his throw to first-base it went over Danny Edgeworth's head and allowed Asuncion to get over to 2nd base.
Michael Curry followed it up with a single putting runners on the corners. Kelvin Alarcon would take credit for the first RBI of the game. Tri-City's left-hander laid a bunt down the first base side and it scored Asuncion, the Dust Devils led 1-0.
Boise responded in the 3rd inning. After a double by Kennard McDowell to start the inning, Luke Morgan had an RBI single to bring him home and it was tied at one. Later in the inning, Willie MacIver had an RBI single and the Hawks led at 2-1.
But Tri-City got the bats working again off Hawks starter Javier Medina in the 4th inning. The Dust Devils scored four runs. It started with a Kelvin Alarcon sacrifice fly scoring Asuncion to make it a 2-2 game. Later in the inning, a wild pitch scored Michael Curry and the Dust Devils led 3-2.
Another sacrifice fly, this time, off the bat of Owen Miller, followed by an Olivier Basabe RBI double, and the Dust Devils led 5-2. Medina finishes his night going 3.2 innings-pitched allowing five runs, and four of them will be earned.
Boise answered back with two runs in the 6th inning. Cade Harris and Jeff Bohling smacked RBI doubles and the Hawks were down at just 5-4.
But Tri-City opened the game up in the 7th. After Eric Hepple went 2.1 innings-pitched striking out five, Jefry Valdez came on for Boise in the 7th, the right hander allowed four runs. It was capped off by an Alarcon RBI double and the Dust Devils took a 9-4 advantage.
Boise added one more in the bottom of the 8th when Matt Hearn slapped an RBI single. It made the score 9-5. But every time Boise scored, Tri-City had an answer. In the top of the 9th, the Dust Devils added two runs off Boise pitcher PJ Poulin. The lefty had not allowed a run this season in 13.1 innings-pitched, but gave up two in the 9th and Tri-City had an 11-5 lead and they held on to take the 2nd game of the series.
The Hawks go to 23-20 on the year, while Tri-City goes to 20-23. Boise has now lost four straight games. Luke Morgan finishes the night going 3-5 at the plate with a run-scored and one RBI. Cade Harris also goes 3-4 with a run-scored and RBI.
