C's surging at home after 6-1 win over Emeralds
July 29, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Canadians starter Randy Pondlerwas not going to be denied a second straight victory as the native of Laguna de Perlas, Nicaragua was dominant over his six innings of work on Saturday night allowing a lone run as Vancouver earned a 6-1 victory over visiting Eugene out at sun-soaked, sold out Scotiabank Field.
Pondler (2-4) allowed three base runners over his six innings before handing the ball to a Canadians bullpen that dazzled as well. Troy Miller (1.0IP, 3 SO), Joey Pulido (1.0IP, 3 SO) and Cobi Johnson (1.0IP, 2 SO) completely snuffed out any hope of an Emeralds comeback striking out eight over the game's final three innings. Miller made his professional debut after signing as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Michigan last week.
Offensively, the C's pounded out nine hits in the win that moves Vancouver to 3-2 (.600) for the second half of the season. McGregory Contreras was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI to pace the offense while Griffin Conine, Yorman Rodriguez and Nick Podkul also cashed in a run each in the 6-1 victory that was played in front of a crowd of 6,413 marking Vancouver's 14th sellout of the season.
Vancouver will host Eugene just hours from now as part of another exciting A&W Family Fun Sunday with gates at 12:00pm and first pitch slated for 1:05pm. The C's will send RHP Josh Winckowski (2-4, 3.86) to the mound opposite RHP Derek Casey (0-0, 1.50). The game can be heard in its entirety on TSN1040 Sports Radio and has been announced as SOLD OUT.
Tickets are available to both Monday (July 30 at 7:05pm) and Tuesday (July 31st at 7:05pm) games by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
