Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm announced the acquisition of forward Walker Duehr (DEW-er) from the Sioux City Musketeers Wednesday in exchange for forward Conner Valesano and a sixth round pick in Phase Two of the 2016 USHL Draft.
Duehr played in 49 games during the 2014-15 season with the Musketeers, scoring two goals and five assists. The 17-year-old measures six feet, two inches, weighs 190 lbs., and was in the lineup for all five Sioux City playoff games this spring.
"We're excited to add Walker into the lineup," Storm head coach Jim Hulton said. "He's a big kid who skates extremely well for a big man. We watched him a number of times this year and always liked him. We think it was a good move for us going forward."
A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Duehr was selected by Sioux City in the 8th round in Phase Two of the 2014 USHL Draft. Duehr had spent his 2013-14 season with the Chicago Young Americans U16 team. But a year prior, he was with the Las Vegas Storm U16 squad.
"It's an added bonus for us that he's been part of the Storm organization before, having played for the Las Vegas Storm," Hulton said. "I think it's a nice tie-in and shows how much the Storm organization has grown."
Valesano will head to Sioux City after appearing in 54 regular season games with Tri-City this season, scoring four goals and 10 assists. The Duluth, Minn. native played 86 games in a Storm sweater over two seasons, and had 10 goals and 20 assists.
"This is a very difficult deal to make from an emotional standpoint," Hulton said. "Conner's been a big part of our team, and a big part of the transformation last year at the trade deadline. He played a really valuable role for us this year so it was very difficult on the personal side because we really value what Conner is as player and a person. We thank him for all his contributions and know he has a bright future ahead of him."
Duehr will be the first Las Vegas Storm alum to join the Tri-City roster since Joey DiBenedetto in 2013-14.
The Storm are now preparing for the team's annual tryout camp, which will be held in Las Vegas June 15-21.
