Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - The Tri-City Storm has acquired forward Max Humitz from the Muskegon Lumberjacks in exchange for forward John Sladic, Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt announced Tuesday.
Humitz, 20, brings four seasons and 178 games of USHL experience to the Storm. In the league since 2012-13, the native of Livonia, Michigan helped the Lumberjacks to the Clark Cup Finals last season. In 33 games this season, the Lake Superior State commit has seven goals and 12 points.
"We are excited to add a veteran presence that brings a lot of energy to the game," said Muckalt. "He has a great passion and it will help our core group."
Humitz was traded from the Lincoln Stars to Muskegon in January 2015 after serving as an assistant captain with the Stars for the first four months of 2014-15. After the Lumberjacks acquired Humitz, he scored five goals and 14 points in 30 regular season games, plus two goals and four points in 12 Clark Cup Playoff games. The Lumberjacks qualified for the Clark Cup Finals.
Before splitting 2014-15 with the Stars and the Lumberjacks, the 5-foot-8, 160-lb. forward played the previous two seasons with Lincoln, accumulating ten goals and 31 points in 76 USHL games.
Humitz joins Mattias Goransson, Dan Labosky and Nico Sturm as 1995-born players on Tri-City.
Originally a sixth round pick of the Stars in Phase I of the 2011 USHL Entry Draft, Humitz is a product of the Honeybaked U16 squad, leading the team in scoring with 31 points in 29 games.
Humitz has played 18 games against Tri-City, collecting one goal and eight assists.
The Storm travels to the eastern outpost of the USHL, Youngstown, for a pair of games against the Phantoms next Friday and Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The Viaero Wireless Pregame Show starts at 5:45 p.m for both games. Tri-City is next at home on Feb. 19 against Sioux Falls for Thunderstruck Night, with a Free Kids Friday and a special thunderstick giveaway.
