Tri-City Drops Series Finale to Empire State

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats (44-25) snapped their season-high nine-game win streak after they fell 10-1 to the Empire State Greys (13-55) on Thursday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium

Empire State got on the board in the first. Jaylen Smith and Manny Garcia both swung at the first pitch they saw against Brac Warren, and both singled. Josh Sears launched a three-run homer to give the Greys a 3-0 lead.

Empire State tacked on two more runs in the third. Smith singled and Garcia followed suit with a two-run jack to put the Greys ahead, 5-0.

Tri-City trimmed the deficit in the fifth. Ryan Sandberg walked Lamar Briggs, who stole second. Cito Culver knocked in a run to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Empire State opened the floodgates in the seventh. Jordan Scott singled off Elliot Carney. Smith then had an RBI triple. Garcia brought in Smith with a double. Luis Atiles cranked a two-run blast off Caden O'Brien to provide the Greys with a 9-1 advantage.

Empire State added another run in the eighth. Jordan Siket doubled off Andrew Dietz, and Smith drove in his teammate with an RBI double to make it a 10-1 affair.

Sandberg (2-5) earned the win. He went 5.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits, walking three, and striking out five.

Warren (1-3), who made his first start after 56 relief appearances to begin his professional career, received the loss. He tossed four frames, allowing five runs on six hits, walking three, and striking out two.

Tri City begins a six-game road trip tomorrow, Friday, August 4 with three games in New Jersey against the Jackals from August 4-6, and three games in New York against the Boulders from August 8-10. First pitch tomorrow at Hinchliffe Stadium at 6:30 PM.
