Tri-City Defeats Everett, Advances To Second Round

Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Silvertips Saturday night 6-1, winning the opening round of the 2009 WHL playoffs four games to one over Everett. WHL regular season rookie leading scorer Kellan Tochkin tallied his first WHL playoff goal Saturday night. In his last game in the WHL, Taylor Ellington put up an assist totaling for five points in five games this post-season. Shane Harper also had an assist moving him to four points this off season with a plus two rating.

The Americans came out strong in the first period of action outshooting the Silvertips 12-4. Through three periods of play Tri-City scored six straight goals starting with Mitch McColm at 10:07 of the first period. Not long after Jason Reese scored on the power play to give Tri-City a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The second period saw another two goals come the Americans way. Jordan Messier and Taylor Procyshen netted the Americans third and fourth goal of the night coming at 4:02 and 19:43 respectively. A similar trend continued into the third period with two early goals from Brooks Macek and Messier. Everett got on the board late in the game after Tochkin deflected an Ellington point shot on the power play.
