Tri-City Defeats Central Illinois 3-1

Bloomington, IL - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Central Illinois Flying Aces by a final score of 3-1 Saturday night at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, IL. In the win, Tri-City completed a two-game season sweep of the Flying Aces and maintained its three-point lead in the USHL league standings. The Storm now travel to Waterloo, IA for an afternoon matchup against the Waterloo Blacks Hawks. Tomorrow's game between the Storm and Black Hawks will feature the top two teams in the Western Conference standings. Puck drop for tomorrow's game is set for 3:05pm.

After a scoreless 1st period, Tri-City broke through with a power play goal from Ronnie Attard at the 8:28 mark of the 2nd period. Attard's goal was his 19th of the season and was assisted by Zac Jones and Filip Forsmark. Tri-City outshot Central Illinois 21-17 though the first two periods and carried a one goal lead into the 3rd period.

Phillip Lapointe scored his 8th goal of the year at 11:21 of the 3rd period to tie the game at 1-1. The Storm answered back with a quick goal to regain the lead. Connor McMenamin netted his 17th goal of the season at 11:57 of the 3rd period, just 36 seconds after Central Illinois tied the game. The Flying Aces lifted goaltender Ryan Snowden for an extra attacker with under two minutes to go in a last attempt to tie the game. Connor McMenamin scored his 2nd goal of the game, and 18th goal of the season into an empty net with 15 seconds to go to secure the win for the Storm. McMenamin's empty net goal was assisted by Brendan Furry, who recorded his 23rd assist of the season on the play.

Isaiah Saville stopped 26 of 27 shots to post his 17th win of the season in goal for the Storm. Connor McMenamin was named the games 1st Star for his two-goal effort, and Ronnie Attard also picked up 3rd Star honors for the Storm following his one goal, one assist, game.

Tri-City improved to 33-9-1-1 in the win and pushed its winning streak to four games. The Storm have won eight of the last ten games and have an eight-point lead in the Western Conference standings over Waterloo entering tomorrow afternoon's road game against the Black Hawks.
