Storm Down Flying Aces 5-2

Bloomington, IL - The Tri-City Storm downed the Central Illinois Flying Aces 5-2 at Grossinger Motors Arena on Friday night. After falling behind 1-0, Tri-City scored 5 unanswered goals to put the game away. In the win, Tri-City got goals from Joe Molenaar, Zac Jones, Chase McLane, Shane Pinto, and Connor McMenamin. Jake Barczewski stopped 31 of the Flying Aces' 33 shots to record the win in goal. Tri-City faces off against Central Illinois tomorrow night at 7:07pm.

Tate Singleton netted the game's first goal less than five minutes in to put the Flying Aces on top 1-0. Singleton's goal was scored even strength at 4:31 of the 1st period. Central Illinois outshot Tri-City 14-13 in the 1st period and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period. Tri-City responded with a dominating performance in the 2nd period to take control of the game. The Storm's first goal of the game was scored by Joe Molenaar at the 2:39 mark of the 2nd period. Molenaar's goal was assisted by Khristian Acosta and was his 13th of the season. Tri-City took the lead on the power play minutes later on a goal by Zac Jones. Jones' 6th goal of the season was assisted by Brendan Furry and Ronnie Attard. Chase McLane netted his 5th goal of the year at 9:30 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a two-goal lead. McLane's goal was scored even strength and assisted by Shane Pinto and Brendan Furry. The Storm's final goal of the period was scored by Shane Pinto at the 13:10 mark of the period. Pinto netted his team leading 20th goal to give Tri-City a 4-1 lead. Pinto's goal was scored on the power play and was assisted by Brendan Furry and Zac Jones. The Storm outshot the Flying Aces 11-9 in the 2nd period.

Storm Captain Connor McMenamin scored his 16th goal of the season midway through the 3rd period to increase the Tri-City lead to four goals. McMenamin's goal was scored at 9:14 of the 3rd period and was assisted by Filip Forsmark, and Ronnie Attard. Central Illinois netted the game's final goal with under five minutes to play to cut the Storm lead to 5-2. Tri-City was outshot 6 to 10 in the 3rd period but finished the night with a three-goal win over Central Illinois. Shane Pinto was named the 1st Star of the Game, Brendan Furry was named the games 2nd Star, and Ronnie Attard picked up 3rd Star honors. The Storm maintained its six-point advantage over the Waterloo Black Hawks for 1st place in the Western Conference standings in the win. Tri-City also increased its lead in the USHL league standings in the 5-2 defeat of the Flying Aces.
