Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Tim Wheeler lined an RBI double in the top of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie, as the Tri-City Dust Devils defeated the Boise Hawks, 7-3, before 3,531 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Wheeler took an Austin Kirk fastball and lined it into the left field corner, scoring Jose Gonzalez, who led the inning off with a walk. The first-round pick out of Sacramento State then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-3. Kent Matthes added a solo homer in the sixth to make it 6-3, with Orlando Sandoval capping the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.
After Tri-City took a 3-0 lead in the fourth thanks to three unearned runs, the Hawks would tie the score in the bottom of the inning on a Jose Guevara RBI double and a Hak-Ju Lee two-run single. However, the Dust Devils bullpen was dominant, at one point retiring 14-straight batters.
Lee had three hits for Boise, part of a ten-hit attack, with starter Trey McNutt striking out seven before leaving the game in the fourth.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Dae-Eun Rhee meeting Rob Scahill at 7:15 p.m.
NOTE - Tomorrow's game will be live online at www.boisehawks.tv and www.milb.tv, however the radio broadcast will be taped-delayed, broadcast in its entirety following the Idaho-New Mexico State football game.
