Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, Dec. 17, 2009 - Montreal Alouettes' owner Bob Wetenhall, team President and CEO Larry Smith, and Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp are pleased to announce today an agreement with Head Coach Marc Trestman to stay on as head coach through the end of the 2012 season.

While this agreement was in place early this season, Coach Trestman did not wish to make the announcement public during the season as not to take attention away from the team.

"Coach Trestman brings to the Alouettes a shared philosophy of excellence and community involvement, and I personally feel it is a privilege to have him associated with the organization as its head coach," said Mr. Wetenhall. "His dedication to the Alouettes' players and his personal humility have engendered our respect and affection for him, and we are enthusiastically looking ahead to continuing our relationship with him for years to come. We again welcome Marc and his family to the Alouettes."

"This contract extension will allow us to continue along the successful path we have been blazing over the last decade with the proven ownership of Bob Wetenhall and move into the future with the kind of continuity that allows our organization to stay at the top of its game for our loyal fans," said Larry Smith.

Trestman has led the Alouettes to the CFL's best record over the last two seasons with a 26-10-0 mark (their 15-3-0 record in 2009 was the best in franchise history), two East Division Championships, two Grey Cup appearances and one Grey Cup victory. The Als were undefeated at home in 2009, scoring at least 600 points for the second year in a row while allowing just 324 points against - a team record and the second lowest total by any team since the CFL moved to an 18-game schedule in 1986.

"The Alouettes gave me the opportunity not only to be a head coach, but to lead a group of talented, professional players as assembled by our general manager, Jim Popp," Marc Trestman said. "We have been successful over the last two seasons due to the hard work of our players, coaches and all of our organization's personnel. I am honoured to be a part of this organization and to be so welcomed by its amazing fans."

"This is a great day for the Alouettes organization. When gratitude is shown towards a major contributor, it sends a message of commitment," Jim Popp said. "I would like to congratulate Marc and his family for this - they truly deserve it."
