Trenton Wins A Pair Of Games From Erie On Wednesday Night

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton won a pair of games over Erie on Wednesday night. The Thunder won the completion of a suspended game over Erie 7-6 in 10 innings, and the regularly scheduled seven-inning game 2-1. With Trenton's two wins, the Thunder are now tied with New Britain for second place in the Northern Division. New Britain split a pair of games against Binghamton on Wednesday night.

In the first game, Trenton walked off with a 7-6 win over Erie. With the game tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Designated Hitter Justin Snyder reached on a bunt single against Erie Reliever Jason Waddell. Center fielder Austin Krum followed with a single to advance Snyder to second base. With two outs, Shortstop Eduardo Nunez produced an RBI double to bring home Snyder for the winning run. Trenton Reliever Eric Wordekemper hurled two shutout innings to pick up the win for the Thunder. Erie Reliever Jason Waddell allowed three hits and one run in 2/3 inning to take the loss. Nunez and Krum each had four hits in the win.

Trenton (61-61) scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman Matt Cusick singled with one out against Erie Starting Pitcher Ramon Garcia. Shortstop Eduardo Nunez followed with a single to move Cusick to second base. First baseman Chris Malec drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI double to make it 1-0. Catcher P.J. Pilittere then singled to increase the lead to 2-0. Left fielder James Cooper capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-run double. Trenton had six consecutive hits in the inning. The Thunder extended the lead to 6-0 in the third inning with two runs. With two outs in the inning, Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez reached on a single to score Malec. Trenton tacked on another run on an RBI double by Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci. Down 6-0, Erie scored five runs in the fourth inning to cut the Trenton lead to 6-5. The Sea Wolves had five straight hits to start the inning against Trenton Starting Pitcher Jeremy Bleich. Catcher Max St. Pierre had a two-run double in the inning. Second baseman Danny Worth and Center fielder Casper Wells also had RBI singles in the inning. St. Pierre tied the game in the eighth inning with a solo home run off of Thunder Reliever Kanekoa Texeira. Bleich yielded eight hits and five runs in 3 2/3 innings in his second start of the season against Erie. Erie Starting Pitcher Ramon Garcia yielded nine hits and six runs in three innings.

In the second game, Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Catcher P.J. Pilittere had a two-out RBI single to score Krum. Erie tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by First baseman Michael Bertram. The Thunder took the lead back on a one-out RBI double by Second baseman Justin Snyder in the second. Trenton Starting Pitcher Zach McAllister has struck out 11 through 4 2/3 innings for a no-decision. The 11 strikeouts tied a Thunder-high for a pitcher this season. Ryan Pope struck out 11 Harrisburg Senators on August 7th. Trenton Reliever Wilkins Arias (4-3) picked up the win by striking out Erie Right fielder Brennan Boesch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Thunder Reliever Humberto Sanchez came on for Arias and pitched two shutout innings for his first save. Erie Starting Pitcher Jon Kibler allowed five hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Trenton and Erie wrap up their three-game series on Thursday night. RHP Ryan Pope (5-9, 4.85) will start for Trenton against Erie RHP Pat Stanley (6-4, 4.57). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
