Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Thunder C P.J. Pilittere delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning as Trenton completed a three-game sweep over the Portland Sea Dogs with a 3-2 win at Waterfront Park on Sunday afternoon. The win was Trenton's first walk-off win of the season. Trenton swept its first series of the season, and leads the Northern Division for the first time this season
With the score knotted at 2-2, SS Ramiro Pena started the 9th inning with a single off of Portland reliever Hunter Jones (0-1). DH Kevin Russo sacrificed Pena to second. After CF Colin Curtis was intentionally walked, both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch by Jones. LF Edwar Gonzalez struck out for the second out, but that set the stage for Pilittere's heroics. Down in the count 0-2, Pilittere knocked a single just out of the reach of Portland 3B Andrew Pinckney to bring home Pena with the winning run. Trenton is now 19-12 and Portland fell to 17-12.
Thunder reliever Zach Kroenke (2-0) got the win as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning. Thunder starting pitcher Chase Wright got a no-decision as he went 6 IP and gave up 5 hits and 2 ER. He struck out 5 and walked 3. Down 2-0, the Thunder clawed back with a run in the 5th inning on a solo home run by 3B Chris Malec. The home run was Malec's second of the season.
