Aerodynamics...

About Last Night...The Aeros fell into an early hole last night and could never dig their way back out of it, falling in game two of this three-game series 6-2. Bowie scored in each of the first four innings and jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Akron starter Frank Herrmann struggled with his location all night. C Chris Gimenez provided all the offense for the Aeros, lining a sacrifice fly to left field in the fifth and then driving a solo home run to left-center in the seventh, his third bomb of the year. The Aeros made things interesting in the ninth by getting the potential tying run to the on-deck circle, but Baysox reliever Kam Mickolio got DH Stephen Head to ground into a deflating 6-4-3 double play to douse the threat.

Wisconsin's Finest...Although Akron couldn't get the offense rolling last night, reliever Scott Roehl was outstanding in shutting down Bowie over the last three innings. The native of Kenosha, WI allowed only three base runners over his stint and struck out four batters without walking a man. Roehl, who led the Carolina League with 24 saves for Kinston last season, has allowed just three hits and a walk in his last two appearances, spanning 5.2 innings. He has not allowed a run during that stretch and has struck out seven hitters.

Welcome Back...The Aeros activated OF Stephen Head from the disabled list prior to last night's game and the former Ole Miss star hit sixth in the lineup while filling the designated hitter role. Head, whose timing looked to be just a hair off after breaking a bone in his right wrist and missing 15 games, finished 0-4 and had his five-game hitting streak snapped. Akron went 7-8 while Head was on the disabled list; the Aeros are currently 12-14 without Opening Day LF Trevor Crowe, who went on the DL with a strained back April 10th (retroactive to April 6th).

Around the System...The tough times continue for Cleveland's top three affiliates, as Buffalo, Akron, and Kinston are a combined 17 games under .500 (33-50, a .398 winning percentage). Torey Lovullo's Bisons squad is 11-18 and already 9.5 games behind Scranton-Wilkes Barre in the International League North, while the K-Tribe is an uncharacteristic 10-16 and 5.5 games back of Myrtle Beach in the Carolina League South (and the fact that Myrtle Beach is in first place is pretty uncharacteristic also). Only Lake County is having success through the first month of play; the Captains are 16-10 and lead the South Atlantic League North by 1.5 games over Delmarva.

Did You Know...Akron closer Randy Newsom is a perfect six for six in save opportunities, and his next save will set a new franchise record. Newsom is currently tied with Mike Soper for the record with 24 career saves.
