
Trenton Splits a Doublerheader

Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton and New Hampshire split a double-header on Sunday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Trenton won the first game 5-4, and New Hampshire won the second game 7-2. New Britain defeated Reading on Sunday afternoon to increase its lead over Trenton for second place in the Northern Division to two games.
In the first game, Trenton broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Catcher Kyle Anson walked to start the inning off of New Hampshire Tim Collins (1-2). Pinch Runner Francisco Santana pinch-ran for Anson. Santana advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Third baseman Justin Snyder. Center fielder Austin Krum followed Snyder by driving home Santana with the game-winning run on a single to right field. The win was Trenton's second walk-off win of the series. Down 4-2, the Thunder scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. The Thunder scored the first run of the frame on an error by New Hampshire Second baseman Brad Emaus. First baseman Chris Malec tied the game at 4-4 on an RBI double off of New Hampshire Reliever Danny Farquhar. Malec had two hits in the win. Trenton Designated Hitter Noah Hall hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning in his first game since being activated from the Disabled List.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Lance Pendleton hurled 3 1/3 innings. He allowed one hit and two runs. Pendleton struck out four and walked four. New Hampshire Kenny Rodriguez yielded two runs and four hits and five innings. Trenton Reliever Wilkins Arias (5-3) picked up the win by going one scoreless inning. Collins yielded hit and a run in 2/3 innings to take the loss.
In the second game, New Hampshire took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Right fielder Nick Gorneault connected on a two-run home run off of Thunder Starting Pitcher Jeremy Bleich. The Fisher Cats added four runs in the third inning. First baseman David Cooper drove home two runs in the inning on a groundout. Also, Catcher Al Quintana and Gorneault each had RBI singles in the inning. Bleich allowed six hits and six runs over three innings to take the loss. He struck out two and walked two. Trenton First baseman Chris Malec had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Thunder. New Hampshire Starting Pitcher Nate Starner (1-1) picked up the win by going 5 1/3 innings. He yielded six hits and two runs to notch his first win of the season.
Trenton and New Hampshire wrap up their four-game series on Monday night. RHP Zach McAllister (6-4, 2.13) will start for Trenton against New Hampshire LHP Luis Perez (8-10, 3.79). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
