Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (December 16, 2007) - Trevor Kell scored two more goals to increase his total to five over the past two games, and the Devils finally saw their hard work pay off in the third period with a big 3-2 win over the Reading Royals.
Kell, coming off a hat trick against Elmira last night, bookended the Devils scoring with both the first goal of the game and the game-winner. Starting his goal rush 1:44 into the first period, Kell would find a feed from Matt Rogers right in front of the Reading net. Hammering away at the rubber, the forward was able to chip the puck up and over Royals netminder Terry Denike to give the Devils a quick one goal lead.
That lead would not last long, however, as Dany Roussin scored his ninth goal of the season three minutes later, firing a blind, backhand shot with his back to the net. Catching Trenton goalie Dave Caruso off guard, the shot snaked its way through the crease to tie the game.
Chris Blight would then tally his fifteenth goal of the season halfway through the second frame to give Reading a temporary lead.
That lead evaporated with 15 seconds left in the period, when the Devils broke through on the power play with a goal by Colin Pepperall. The 11-year veteran caught a rebound from a shot by Ryan Gunderson, and, perfectly placed in the slot, fired a low slider between the left pipe and Denike's pads. Matt Rogers would also get an assist on the play, making him one of three Devils with multi-point nights.
The Devils had entered the third period tied in each of their past two games, only to find a tough goal going against them late in the frame. This time the Devils turned the tables, when Trevor Kell found the net for his seventh goal of the season on Trenton's sixth power play of the night.
The Thunder Bay, Ontario native received a pass from Gunderson at the bottom dot. Finding only one defender in his way, Kell sized up his shot, aiming for the top right corner of the net and firing a frozen rope right to it.
Kell and Gunderson would join Rogers in having multi-point nights. Dave Caruso made 26 saves on 28 shots for the win, his seventh of the season.
The Trenton Devils have a quiet week before skating at Sovereign Bank Arena against the Dayton Bombers this Friday. The puck drops December 21st at 7:30pm. Tune into WTSR 91.3 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
