Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.] – The Macon Trax played two crucial road games this past weekend and ended with a record of 1-1. They came out victorious in Jacksonville on Friday night by a score of 3-2 to extend their winning streak to five games. The streak ended in Fayetteville on Sunday afternoon as the FireAntz handed the Trax their first loss in six games with a score of 6-3.

On Friday night, the Trax played hard and took two very important points in the standings from the Barracudas late in the game. The game was tied until the Trax Lou Dimasi scored his tenth goal of the season on the power play with 1:14 remaining in the game. This was also DimasiÂ’s second game winning goal of the season. With this win, the Trax were in a brief tie with the Barracudas for second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Terry Denike was the winning goaltender for the Trax and made 42 saves on 44 shots. This marked DenikeÂ’s second win in as many nights against his former team. Chris Duggan and John Gurskis had the other goals for the Trax. JacksonvilleÂ’s Kelly Shields took the loss as the goalie and made 33 saves. The Barracudas got goals from Jason Silverthorn on the power play and Aaron Wilson at even strength. FridayÂ’s game in Jacksonville marked the last regular season game between these two rivals, the next time these two WHA2 finalists could meet again would be in the SPHL playoffs which will commence the week of March 21.

Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, the Trax looked to climb back into a tie for second place with a win against the FireAntz. Jacksonville won their contest on Saturday night against Huntsville to claim sole possession of second at that moment. Macon was idle on Saturday and therefore was well rested for SundayÂ’s meeting. The Trax were penalized heavily throughout the game by referee Kirk Wood and the FireAntz made the Trax pay as they converted on 4 of 8 power play opportunities and won the contest 6-3. MaconÂ’s offense came from David Deeves and Steve Zoryk. Deeves had one goal and Captain Steve Zoryk scored two. Terry Denike took the loss as the Trax netminder making 42 saves on 48 shots. Chad Collins turned in another solid performance for the FireAntz making stops on 20 of 23 shots and claiming his league leading 23rd win of the season. Fayetteville had six different goal scorers on the night as George Nistas, Jamie Miller, Chad Peck, Nick Kormanyos, Sean Edwards and Kory Baker all had goals.
