Arkansas Travelers News Release
Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas - For the second straight night the Arkansas Travelers had a walk-off hit to beat the Springfield Cardinals. The Travelers have been able to come back for consecutive nights against the Cardinals' bullpen, tonight winning 4-3. Tuesday it was Adam Greenberg, Wednesday it was Michael Collins getting a bases-loaded, two-RBI single off Cards closer Luke Gregerson (0-2), handing him his second straight loss. Bobby Mosebach (4-3) pitched his second complete game of the year, allowing three runs on nine hits. Mosebach is the only pitcher in Class AA to pitch two complete games.
Jordan Czarniecki started off the ninth inning with a single to left. Bobby Magallanes then called for a hit-and-run with the next batter, Nate Sutton. The play worked perfectly, pulling the shortstop to the second base bag, and Sutton hit the ball on the ground where the shortstop was, moving Czarniecki to third with no outs.
Last night's hero, Greenberg, bounced the ball back to the pitcher's mound and Gregerson caught Czarniecki coming home for the first out. The play lasted long enough for Sutton to get to third and Greenberg to reach second. With first base open, Springfield intentionally walked Hainley Statia to set up the potential double play. The move did not pay off as the next batter Collins, came through for the Travs fourth consecutive win and fifth in their last six. The win also gave them 10 out of their last 11 home games.
Mosebach surrendered all three Cardinal runs in the third inning. 1B Steven Hill reached base on a lead off double for the first of his four hits. The next batter, Brandon Yarbrough singled Hill to third. Jose Martinez hit a 1-0 pitch to right for a sac fly to score Hill and give the Cards the lead. Mark Shorey followed that with an RBI double to score Yarbrough from first. After a Matt Pagnozzi groundout, Isa Garcia hit a single to left to score Shorey for the Cardinals third and final run.
Apart from the third inning, Mosebach allowed only six base runners; two of those were erased on double plays. Mosebach did not walk a batter and struck out two, lowering his ERA to 4.29. He also leads the Texas League in innings pitched.
The Travs broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Czarniecki scored from third when Collins was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Collins finished with three RBI.
In his first game back from Triple-A, Adam Morrissey scored the second run in the fourth inning, cutting the lead to one run. Morrissey singled to lead off the fourth and moved up to second base when Corey Smith reached on catcher's interference for the second game this series. Morrissey moved to third and Smith was erased at second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Cliff Remole. Morrissey then scored from third on Sutton's RBI fielder's choice.
The loss for the Cardinals was their sixth straight. The win for the Travs ties them for second place in the Texas League North Division with the Cards.
Time of game was a quick 2:20 and paid attendance was 4,532.
