Arkansas Travelers News Release

Wolff Stadium, San Antonio, TX - On the strength of a three-run rally in the fourth inning, the San Antonio Missions (7-13) pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Arkansas Travelers (9-12). Gary Harris delivered a game-tying double, while Jesus Guzman singled to score Harris with the winning run. The Travs committed two errors in the inning leading to two unearned runs and LHP Daniel Davidson (0-2) took the loss although he pitched well. In seven innings, Davidson allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts. San Antonio LHP Travis Blackley (2-2) earned the win allowing two runs on five hits, a walk and three strikeouts in six innings. Guzman finished 2-for-2 and made three plays on hard smashes to third base. Travs 3B Matt Brown was 2-for-4 with a home run (5), a double and two RBI but he also committed two errors. San Antonio's win is just their second in 13 games.

The Missions jumped out to a first inning lead against Davidson. Jason Bourgeois doubled to begin the inning and came home on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Clement.

The Travs tied it up in the top of the second inning against Blackley. Mike Eylward singled and went to third base when Jason Aspito's blooper fell inside the left field line for a double. Greg Porter then smashed a pitch to dead center field, but it was caught at the warning track for sacrifice fly that scored Eylward with the tying run.

Brown battled Blackley at the start of the fourth inning fouling off six pitches. He homered to left field on the ninth pitch of the at-bat for a 2-1 Travs lead.

However Brown misplayed Bryan Lahair's grounder to begin the bottom of the fifth allowing the leadoff batter to reach. Davidson then uncorked a wild pitch to move Lahair to second base. Harris doubled to left-center with one out to score Lahair tying the game at 2-2. Guzman then followed with a line drive single to left to bring Harris home just in front of LF Aaron Peel's throw. Guzman advanced to second base on the throw home. It appeared that Davidson would get out of the inning when Bourgeois hit a routine grounder to second base with two outs. But 2B Eric Rodland's throw was wild allowing Guzman to score for a 4-2 San Antonio lead.

Blackley retired nine of the last ten batters he faced before handing the ball to RHP Craig James who struck out the side in the seventh inning.

The Travs threatened against James in the eighth inning when Rodland hit a leadoff double to the left-field corner. Dwaine Bacon then dropped down a bunt and was thrown out by two inches while Rodland advanced to third base. After striking out Peel for the second out, James walked Brandon Wood to put the tying run on base. Brown followed with a shot inside the third base line to score Rodland cutting the San Antonio lead to 4-3. RHP Jon Huber relieved and got Eylward to fly out to right to end the threat. Then Huber retired the side in order in the ninth for the save (4).

Time of game was 2:40 and the paid attendance was 4,172.

The third game of this series will be played on Friday night. The Travs have RHP James Holcomb (0-2, 3.75 ERA) pitching against RHP Yorman Bazardo (1-1, 3.91 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
