Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock-Although the Arkansas Travelers out hit the Tulsa Drillers 9-7, they couldn't find the timely hits they needed in the 3-1 loss on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Drillers jumped out to 2-0 lead in the second inning and then added one more in the sixth. The Travs tried to start their comeback in the bottom of the sixth, but one run was all they could come up with against Keith Weiser (8-6) and Chris Malone.
The Travs record falls to 13-21 (39-65 overall) after the loss to Tulsa, and the Drillers record improves to 21-13 (50-53 overall).
The Travs started Ryan Brasier (5-9) who suffered the loss after throwing seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Weiser beat the Travs for the third time pitching seven innings and giving up just one unearned run on seven hits. Chris Malone (5) entered in relief earning the save after throwing two innings and giving up only two hits.
The Drillers jumped out front in the first inning on a solo homerun. Branson Sardinha (2) hit a two-out home run to dead center giving Tulsa a 1-0 lead.
Tulsa added another in the second inning after Jason Van Kooten hit a one-out triple to right center. Van Kooten was scored on a sacrifice fly to center from Scott Beerer increasing the lead to 2-0.
Charlie Blackmon led the sixth inning off with a single, and then stole second base to put him in scoring position. Blackmon moved to third on a fly ball to right from Sardinha. Wilin Rosario walked putting runners on the corners, and then Jeff Kindel hit a sacrifice fly ball to left that brought Blackmon home to push their lead to 3-0.
The Travs put up their first run in the bottom of the sixth. Tyson Auer led off with a bunt single, and was moved to second on a wild throw to first by Drillers catcher Wilin Rosario. Andrew Romine bunted for a single, putting runners on first and third. Alexi Amarista hit a grounder to second for a fielder's choice, but it allowed Auer to score cutting the lead to 3-1.
The time of game was 2:30 and the paid attendance was 6,822.
The Travs return to the field on Saturday against the Tulsa Drillers. The Travs will start lefty Tyler Chatwood (2-4, 3.70) against the Drillers lefty Christian Friedrich (2-6, 5.20). The game will start at 7:10 and the gates will open at 6.
