Danbury Trashers News Release

The Danbury Trashers posted a 3-1 win over the Adirondack Frostbite to win their inaugural game in front of a sell out crowd of over 3,000.

Two first period power-play goals from Blake Bellefeuille and Mike Bayrack, along with an empty-netter from John Morlang accounted for the Trashers' scoring during their inaugural game.

Framingham, Mass., native Bellefeuille tallied the first goal in Trashers' history 5:23 into the first frame, assisted by Brent Gretzky and Mario Larocque.

Bayrack followed Bellefeuille's lead with a power play score from Bruce Richardson, and Nicholas Bilotto just over then minutes later.

Adirondack recorded their only score in the second period with an even strength goal from veteran Hugo Belanger on assists by Frank Littlejohn and Bruce Gardiner just over three minutes in. Gardiner was granted a penalty shot six minutes into the first period, but failed to score.

The Frostbite finished 0-for-12 on the man advantage, while the Trashers came through 2-for-10. Morlang notched his empty-netter with 18 seconds to go in the third, after Adirondack Head Coach Marc Potvin pulled goaltender Derek Gustafson for an extra attacker. Gustafson stopped 37 of 39 shots, while his fellow netminder Scott Stirling knocked aside 32 of 33 attempts.

Danbury's next game of the season will take place in Elmira, N.Y., on Saturday night as they take on the Jackals at 7:30pm. The team will return to the Danbury Ice Arena Sunday afternoon to face the Fort Wayne Komets at 5:30. Both game broadcasts will be available at the media link at http://www.danburytrashers.com.
