Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that winger Dave Stewart has been signed for the 2004-05 season. Stewart has played five seasons of professional hockey in the ECHL with the Jackson Bandits and Reading Royals. Stewart made his pro debut in 1998-99 with the UHL's Thunder Bay Thunder Cats. Stewart is expected to join the Mallards line-up following this weekend's games.

Stewart spent the 2003-04 season with the Reading Royals. He appeared in 71 games recording six goals and 10 assists for 16 points with a team-leading 253 penalty minutes. Stewart was also a key component of the Royals run to the ECHL's Eastern Conference Final. Stewart served as both an assistant captain and team captain during the 2003-04 season.

Prior to joining the Royals, Stewart played four seasons with the ECHL's Jackson Bandits. During his time in Jackson, Stewart recorded 23 goals and 40 assists for 63 points with 1,268 penalty minutes. He led the Bandits in penalty minutes each of his four seasons in Jackson.

Stewart returns to the UHL after appearing in six regular season games and 12 playoff contests with the Thunder Bay Thunder Cats in 1998-99. Stewart joined the T-Cats after completing his college career at St. Francis Xavier University.

"Dave reminds me a lot of Mark McFarlane," said Cornfield. "He is a tough, team player who will hit everything in sight. He will certainly aggravate our opponents. He is a character player and team leader. He's a great pick up for us."
