Trashers erupt early to defeat Richmond, 6-2

RICHMOND, VA--J.M. Daoust scored just 29 seconds into the opening period and added another goal in the opening frame as the Trashers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 6-2 over Richmond on Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum.

Daoust's 6th of the season was followed by goals from Jamie Thompson and David Hymovitz before Daoust scored again at the 10:02 mark to give Danbury a 4-0 lead. Daoust, Hymovitz and Daw each had three first period points as Richmond's lone tally came from Mike Oliveira at the 13:53 mark.

The RiverDogs and Trashers traded goals in the second period as Troy Smith's first of the season was followed by a Richmond power play goal from Joey Bastien with six seconds left in the period.

Brad Wingfield scored the Trashers 3rd period goal from Dave MacIsaac at the 17:25 mark.

Sly Daigle stopped 29 of 31 shots, while Doug Groenstege stopped 7 of 11 first period shots before he was pulled for Mike D'Allessandro, who saved 25 of 27 in relief of Richmond's starter.

Danbury's Mike Omicioli and Richmond's Bobby Kukulka wewre given game misconducts following a second period incident at the 15:58 mark.

The Trashers advance their record to 18-7-5 and remain unbeaten over their last 13 games with a 10-0-3 mark. Danbury is tied for first place with Adirondack with 41 points.

New Year's Eve will be celebrated at the Danbury Ice Arena as the Trashers host Richmond once again on Saturday at 7:30pm, while the Adirondack Frostbite come to town on New Year's Night this Sunday at 7:00pm in a match up of the top two teams in the East Division.

The Trashers are also holding a special for the New Year's Eve/New Year's Night games against Richmond and Adirondack.
