The first full week of 2006 will see the Trashers host Kalamazoo on Wednesday night at the Danbury Ice Arena, before traveling to Motor City, Flint and Fort Wayne this weekend.
TRASHERS WEEK IN REVIEW
DAOUST'S 3RD PERIOD GOALS FUEL TRASHERS 4-3 COMEBACK WIN OVER ADIRONDACK
January 1, 2006
DANBURY, CT--J.M. Daoust scored a pair of third period goals, including the game-winner with 37.6 seconds left as the Danbury Trashers came from behind to defeat the Adirondack Frostbit 4-3 before 2,482 at the Danbury Ice Arena on New Year's night.
Despite outshooting the Frostbite 13-4 in the opening period, the Frostbite scored first as Kevin Watters sccored a power play goal from Hugo Belanger and Scott Drevitch at the 11:55 mark, but Danbury responded 58 seconds later on a David Hymovitz even strength goal to tie the score at 1-1.
Sly Cloutier netted a pair of goals in the second period to give the Frostbite a 3-1 lead, but Dave MacIsaac's power play goal at the 19:11 mark put Danbury within one goal heading into the final frame.
Daoust's first goal in the final period came at the 4:06 mark, as he took a pass in the left wing circle and snapped a shot past Kris Tebbs to tie the score at 3-3. A pair of fights followed later in the period as Ed Campbell and Ryan Bennett dropped the gloves at 5:48, followed by a MacIsaac beatdown of Chris Mei at the 7:36 mark.
With less than a minute to play, Troy Smith found Hymovitz in the neutral zone, who fired a perfect pass to Daoust, who streaked in from the right wing with a breakaway. Daoust came across the crease and backhanded a shot into the net to give the Trashers a 4-3 lead with 37.6 seconds left in the game.
Sly Daigle upped Danbury's record to 20-7-5 with a 16 save performance, while Tebbs stopped 32 of 36 for the loss. Danbury now has 45 points and a two-point lead over Adirondack in the UHL East Division.
TRASHERS COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT RICHMOND IN SHOOTOUT ON NEW YEAR'S EVE
December 31, 2005
DANBURY, CT--Danbury scored three final period goals, including two shorthanded ones as the Danbury Trashers overcame a 3-1 deficit to top Richmond 5-4 in a shootout on New Year's Eve at the Danbury Ice Arena.
Richmond opened the scoring as JJ Wrobel netted a goal on a rebound of a Mike Oliveira shot at the 5:28 mark of the opening period. However, David Hymovitz scored his 16th of the season just 18 seconds later to tie the score, which remained deadlocked for the remainder of the period.
The RiverDogs played a very strong second period as Olivira and Dan Vandemeer scored goals at 5:32 and 17:00 of the period to give Richmond a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.
J.M. Daoust scored on Richmond for the second straight game as he lit the lamp just 34 seconds into the 3rd on the power play to make it a one-goal game. Meanwhile after John Osborne took an interference penalty at the 7:32 mark, it looked like Richmond would have a chance to regain their two-goal advantage. It never happened. Danbury's Dave MacIsaac and Jeff Daw scored shorthanded goals while Osborne was in the box to give the Trashers a 4-3 lead.
Oliveira continued his fine play as he scored his second of the night, inching the puck past Jayme Platt in the top corner of the net to tie the game at 4-4, which was the score at the end of regulation.
Danbury entered the shootout with a poor mark of 2-5, but goals from MacIsaac, Fred Belanger and Regan Kelly lifted Danbury to the win. Wrobel and Warren Cooper scored for the RiverDogs in the extra session.
TRASHERS ERUPT EARLY TO DEFEAT RICHMOND 6-2
December 30, 2005
RICHMOND, VA--J.M. Daoust scored just 29 seconds into the opening period and added another goal in the opening frame as the Trashers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 6-2 over Richmond on Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum.
Daoust's 6th of the season was followed by goals from Jamie Thompson and David Hymovitz before Daoust scored again at the 10:02 mark to give Danbury a 4-0 lead. Daoust, Hymovitz and Daw each had three first period points as Richmond's lone tally came from Mike Oliveira at the 13:53 mark.
The RiverDogs and Trashers traded goals in the second period as Troy Smith's first of the season was followed by a Richmond power play goal from Joey Bastien with six seconds left in the period.
Brad Wingfield scored the Trashers 3rd period goal from Dave MacIsaac at the 17:25 mark.
Sly Daigle stopped 29 of 31 shots, while Doug Groenstege stopped 7 of 11 first period shots before he was pulled for Mike D'Allessandro, who saved 25 of 27 in relief of Richmond's starter.
Danbury's Mike Omicioli and Richmond's Bobby Kukulka were given game misconducts following a second period incident at the 15:58 mark.
TRASHERS CRUSH RICHMOND 6-3

DANBURY, CT--David Hymovitz and Mike Omicioli each scored two goals apiece as the Danbury Trashers took a bite out of the Richmond RiverDogs with a 6-3 win before a sold out crowd of 3,005 on Wednesday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
After Richmond's Joey Bastien scored at the 9:45 mark to give Richmond a 1-0 lead, Hymovitz tied the score with a power play goal at the 18:08 mark after R.C. Lyke was sent off for tripping.
Danbury scored quickly in the second as Regan Kelly netted his 3rd of the season at 4:33, followed by another Hymovitz goal at 5:44. Richmond closed the gap late in the period as Mike Olivera scored a fluke goal as he hit the puck off the back of Sly Daigle before it caromed into the net.
