Trappers game postponed
April 27, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Edmonton Trappers News Release
Today's Pacific Coast League game between the Edmonton Trappers and the Tacoma Rainiers, originally scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM, has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader when the Rainiers return to Edmonton for a four-game series, July 23-26.
Edmonton is currently in second place in the North Division of the PCL, one game behind the Salt Lake Stingers. The Trappers are 11-8 after 19 games, tied for the third-best start in club history. Tacoma won two of the three games in the series and are only ½ game behind the Trappers. Edmonton's offensive has been among the best in the PCL in the early going. The Trappers are second in the league in batting average (.305), runs scored (112) and stolen bases (21). The club has scored five or more runs in the 13 of the first 19 games.
The club's top performer in the early going, first baseman/outfielder Valentino Pascucci, was recalled by the Montreal Expos on Monday, the same day he was named the PCL Batter of the Week. Pascucci had five home runs and 18 RBI in 18 games before being called up. Other offensive stars through the first few weeks of the season include catcher Randy Knorr, who had his 12-game hitting streak come to an end on Monday night, and outfielder Ryan Church, who is batting .379 with one home run and 12 RBI in 16 games with the Trappers.
Edmonton will begin a four-game series against the Portland Beavers on Thursday night at TELUS Field. Right-hander T.J. Tucker (2-0, 4.86) will take the hill for the Trappers. He will be opposed by righty Dennis Tankersley (1-2, 2.49). Game time is 7:05 PM.
