
Henry Mateo placed on disabled list

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that second baseman Henry Mateo has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. Mateo will have surgery and will rehab at the Expos' complex in Viera, Florida. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 23 players; 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and three outfielders, plus one player (Mateo) on the disabled list.
Mateo, 27, batted .306 (22-for-72) with eight RBI in 18 games with the Trappers this season. He scored 14 runs, hit five doubles and one triple, drew seven walks and stole seven bases. Mateo is currently second in the PCL in stolen bases and is tied for eighth in the circuit in runs scored. He started 15 of the first 17 games at second base for the Trappers. Mateo spent the entire 2003 season with the Montreal Expos, batting .240 (37-for-154) with seven RBI in 100 games. He stole 11 bases and scored 29 runs. Mateo's last complete season in the minors was 2001 when the native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic stole 47 bases and scored 71 runs in 118 games for Triple-A Ottawa. He was originally selected by the Expos in the second round of the 1995 draft and has spent his entire career in the Montreal organization.
The next Trapper home game will be on Tuesday, April 27 when the club will take on the Tacoma Rainiers. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
