The Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Fresno Grizzlies Monday night to take a 2-1 series lead. Behind winning pitcher Edgar Gonzalez (1-2), Tucson managed to stay atop the Southern and PCL standings by upping their record to 12-6. The loss dropped the Grizzlies 8.5 games in back of the Sidewinders at 4-15.
Offensive stars for Tucson included CF Luis Terrero, once again, as he extended his hitting streak to double figures at 10. He finished the night going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. 2B Scott Hairston had the most productive night at the plate, which featured his 2-run triple in the bottom of the 3rd that plated 3B Andy Green and LF Victor Hall. He finished 3-4, with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
LHP Noah Lowry (0-2) took the loss for the Grizzlies as he threw 5 innings, allowing 4 R, 2 ER, on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. Fresno began the game with 2 quick runs off of Gonzalez, but the Tucson right-hander was quick to recover, allowing just one more run over his 6 innings pitched, while only surrendering 5 hits.
2,559 fans attended the contest, which lasted 2:44. Tomorrow's probables for the final game of the series feature LHP Chad Zerbe (0-1, 4.70) for Fresno facing the rehabbing LHP Casey Fossum (0-0, 0.00). Start time is 6:30 PM.
