Madison Capitols News Release

Day two of the preseason roster release brings us to the Capitols blue line. The team brings 11 defenders into training camp for the season including five players who played games for the team last season.

Although the team does not have many USHL games played outside of the five 2022-23 Capitols players, the defensive core has ten division one commitments among them. Something uncommon with last season's defensive core for Madison is that the back end has size. Seven of the eleven defensemen are above 6'0" compared to the one that the team ended last season with.

Among the returning defensemen, Ethan Elias leads with 36 career points as he prepares for his third full season in the league. He joins Will Felicio, Jordan Gudridge, Colton Jamieson, and Charlie Michaud as the five defensemen who played games for Madison last season.

One newcomer has played games in the USHL prior to the start of the 2023-24 season. Nathan Tobey spent the last two seasons with the US National Team Development Program. In his career, Tobey has played in 60 games in the league recording three points.

Jack Henry played the 2022-23 season with the Cranbrook Bucks of the BCHL. In 44 games, the Skaneateles, NY, native recorded 17 points including five goals. Joining Henry in Canada was Noah Barrage who played his games for his hometown Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL in 2022-23. In his four seasons with Humboldt, Barrage registered 89 points in 167 games played. He served as the team's alternate captain last season as well.

Jonathan Lanza and James Mackey played on the east coast with prep schools last season. Lanza served as the alternate captain for the Dexter Southfield School. He recorded 21 points in 32 games with his team. Mackey, a 6'6" left shot defensemen, played in 24 games for Hotchkiss School while recording 15 points.

Lastly, Capitols AAA player and 2023 Phase I 3rd Rounder, Harper Frey, is at training camp for the Capitols. Frey is one of two Wisconsin natives on Madison's preseason roster heading into the year, Colton Jamieson being the other.

Madison has sixteen forwards on the team's preseason roster, which will be unveiled tomorrow. This all comes ahead of the team's lone home preseason game against Cedar Rapids on Friday. Tickets for that game can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
