Montreal Alouettes News Release

Sherbrooke - Montreal Alouettes players returned to Bishop's University's Coulter Field for the last practice of the 2016 training camp on Wednesday morning. A day after the team's first wave of cuts, the team was back at work under a bright sunshine in Sherbrooke in order to finalize its preparation for Friday's preseason tilt against the Toronto Argonauts at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

A question of attitude

The 2016 training camp allowed many Alouettes players to stand out and cause surprises. For the players and the coaching staff, camp had the likes of a long and competitive marathon. It also represented a golden opportunity for the personnel to start off the campaign on the right foot, while building proper strategies and working on team spirit, while adopting a winning attitude right off the bat. Even if camp takes its toll on the body, championship calibre teams always come out of training camp stronger.

These three weeks of intense practices allowed the offensive coaching staff to build some cohesion, while sharing their philosophy with their protégés. On the defensive side of things, the already dominant squad of Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach Noel Thorpe continued to progress day after day. Close to 100 players were evaluated throughout the process. They were happy when they were gathered for the last post-practice huddle of training camp, as they are anxious to rekindle with their fans on Friday night.

Everyone's contribution

The rhythm seemed faster and the cohesion between players was even more evident during this 18th day of training camp. Rookies Corbin Louks, Nick Temple, Cam McDaniel, Jacob Ruby and Jared Koster continue to impress with their performances.

A battle to be finished is currently going down at the receiver position, as Chandler Jones, Mike Davis, Corbin Louks, as well as draft picks Mikhaïl Davidson and George Johnson intensely battled throughout camp for a spot on the roster, while veteran offensive and defensive linemen continued their preparation for Friday's game. Jim Popp's players are composed of an elaborate mix of seasoned veterans and hungry rookies, which is a good omen for Alouettes fans.
