Montreal Alouettes News Release

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, June 14, 2005 - The Alouettes continued training camp on the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean today. Here's a look at Day 17 of practice:

Last practice of training camp

The Alouettes practiced under rainy skies on the last day of training camp today.

Weekes moves to offence

Defensive lineman Alan Weekes went to the offensive side of the ball. The rookie will now play at guard.

Calvillo will play

Head Coach Don Matthews confirmed that quarterback Anthony Calvillo will start the game on Thursday and will play until he feels he has taken enough reps. Ted White will step in when Calvillo is done.

Other rookie to watch for

Also according to Matthews, Nigerian-born rush end Tabugbo Anyansi (pronounced Tie-BOO-bo On-YON-zee) has great range at middle linebacker and can play multiple positions on defence.

Running backs

Running backs Michael Jenkins and Éric Lapointe will each take half the snaps in Thursday's game.

According to Coach Matthews

''Our starters will get some playing time. There are also a few battles to look for at different positions.''

Exhausting camp

It has been an exhausting camp for everyone. Preston Popp, son of VP/General Manager Jim Popp, took some time in the afternoon for a quick nap (see photo).

Tomorrow's schedule

The Alouettes will leave the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow en route to Ottawa. Players will practice upon arrival and will be available for the media immediately after practice on the field. The Alouettes will play the Ottawa Renegades in their second and final pre-season game on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Frank Clair Stadium (CJAD/CKAC).
