December 4, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Wave fans responded to the recent "Toys for Tots Teddy Bear Toss" promotion at the Wave game last Friday (11/28) by showering the field with teddy bears and stuffed animals following Milwaukee's first goal in the Wave's 7-3 win over the St. Louis Steamers at U.S. Cellular Arena. A total of 939 stuffed animals were collected for Toys for Tots after fans hurled the items onto the carpet following Joe Reiniger's tally at 6:54 of the first period. The Wave would like to thank all the fans who participated in the promotion, as well as the U.S. Marines and other volunteers who helped collect the items.
TOZER, VORBERG IN ANAHEIM WITH U.S. FUTSAL TEAM
Wave Coach Keith Tozer, along with goalkeeper Nick Vorberg and Assistant General Manager Bryan "Moose" Koch are currently in Anaheim, CA with the U.S. National Futsal Team for the Futsal Goal Cup, a four-team tournament being staged at the Anaheim Convention Arena. Tozer is the head coach of the U.S. team, which is slated to play Canada in its opener on December 5 (10:15 PM CST) followed by matches against Guatemala (10:15 PM on December 6) and Mexico (7 PM on December 7). The Anaheim tournament should serve as important preparation for the U.S. team ahead of the 2004 CONCACAF Championships to be played next summer in Costa Rica.
Futsal is a derivative of soccer that is played with five-man teams on an un-walled basketball style court, with a "heavy" (limited-bounce) ball. Under Tozer's leadership, the U.S. team has become one of the CONCACAF region's top squads, finishing first in 1996 and third in 2000.
Assistant Coach Steve Morris will guide the Wave in Tozer's absence; he'll lead Milwaukee from behind the bench in Saturday's game (12/6, 6:35 PM CST) at Baltimore.
SATURDAY'S GAME KICKS OFF FOUR-GAME ROAD SWING
Saturday's game at Baltimore begins a four-game road swing for the Wave, which will play eight-of-the-next-ten on the road. Milwaukee returns home on Wednesday, December 31, 1:05 PM when it hosts the Monterrey Fury in the annual New Year's Eve Day game at U.S. Cellular Arena. Fans can purchase a Family Four Pack that includes four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $50 by calling the Wave Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283). (Orders must be placed by December 29.) The World Famous San Diego Chicken will also be on hand to entertain the crowd.
