Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

BURLINGTON, VT - It was a night of strong Tri-City debut performances that led the ValleyCats to a 9-1 blowout victory of the Vermont Lake Monsters on Monday night at Centennial Field in Burlington.

Adrian Tovalin led the way, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with six RBI and four runs scored. The Astros 16th round draft selection this season out of Azusa Pacific University in California, hit two home runs, including a solo shot in the second and a grand slam in the fourth.

Tovalin began the season with Rookie League Greeneville, where he had four home runs and 11 RBI in 18 games.

The ValleyCats offense also received multi-hit nights from Abraham Toro-Hernandez (2-for-4, 2 R), Connor MacDonald (2-for-5, RBI), and Kyle Davis (2-for-5).

Brandon Bielak, the Astros 11th round selection from Notre Dame, earned his second professional victory in his first outing with the 'Cats since being called up from the Gulf Coast League Astros.

Bielak came into the ballgame in the sixth, and was nearly untouchable. He struck out six Lake Monsters batters in three innings of work, while allowing two hits.

Starting pitcher Corbin Martin, the Astros 2nd round pick from Texas A&M, struck out five across four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits.

Ben Smith and Reggie Johnson each turned in one clean inning a piece.

The 'Cats are currently on a four game winning streak, and will look to complete the series sweep of Vermont on Tuesday, which would be their first of the season.

On Wednesday, the ValleyCats will observe a league-wide off-day before welcoming the Staten Island Yankees to town for a three game set beginning on Thursday.

The New York Yankees affiliate is currently the NYPL's top team at 23-10, and have nine top 10 draft picks on their roster, including the third and fifth rounders from this June's MLB draft.
