Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - David Christensen powered the Tourists to an early lead while Kevin Clark once again put the icing on the cake as the Tourists defeated the Greenville Drive by a 6-3 score, thanks as well to a Jhoulys Chacin complete game.

Christensen picked up four RBI as he provided a two out, two-run double in the second, then added a two-run home run in the fifth inning to put the Tourists up 4-0. Chacin (10-1) the league leader in wins coming into the night, threw one-hit ball through the first five innings before running into trouble with two outs in the sixth.

Yamaico Navarro drove in a run with a double after back-to-back singles to chip into the four-run lead. Then All-Star Mike Jones banged out a first-pitch single up the middle off Chacin to plate two more runs and put Greenville in the driver's seat and make it a 4-3 game.

The Tourists put some insurance on the board in the bottom half of the inning. With runners at the corners and two outs, Kevin Clark banged a bases clearing triple off the right field fence to plate two and put the Tourists ahead by their winning 6-3 margin.

Chacin settled down after the rough sixth to toss the first nine-inning complete game for the Tourists this season. He previously threw a seven-inning complete game in a doubleheader against Hickory on April 20th. The young ace looked marvelous on the hill, going the distance while allowing three runs and seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. 20 of Chacin's 27 outs came on groundballs, with only one fly out on the night.

Greenville starter Jose Alvarez (3-8) takes the loss after 5.2 innings where he allowed six runs on just five hits, while walking three and striking out a trio.

Saturday night will feature the second game of the series as the Tourists send Cory Riordan (6-3, 2.61) to the hill to face lefty Felix Doubront (6-3, 2.94). The Tourists will host John Henry Moss Night as the team and the city of Asheville recognize the president emeritus of the South Atlantic League by retiring the number 50. The Tourists will wear 50's throwbacks to commemorate the event and those jerseys will be awarded after the game to the winners of a Shirts Off Our Back auction that will be held until the seventh inning.

First pitch will come at a special 7:15 p.m. start time and the game can not only be heard on the Tourists flagship station WRES-FM, but it can also be seen on WMYA-TV - Asheville's My40. Pregame coverage for the first televised Tourists game in over a decade will begin a 7:00 p.m.

The Asheville Tourists are the Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Tickets are available by contacting the front office at (828)-258-0428 or on the website, www.theashevilletourists.com.
