Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lake County Captains (36-24) jumped all over the Hagerstown Suns (28-31) and finished them off 11-0. It is only the second time all year that the Suns have been shut out. The only other time was also to Lake County back on April 16th.
Two of the top prospects for both organizations started the game on the mound, but it was Lake County's Kelvin De La Cruz (5-2) that looked the part. De La Cruz pitched five scoreless innings, struck out seven, and picked up his fifth win of the year. The Suns' Josh Smoker (0-2) was beat up in the loss. Smoker pitched just three innings and gave up seven runs.
Lake County started it off with five runs in the third inning as they batted around. Centerfielder Adam White led the inning off with a single. Shortstop Mark Thompson followed that up with a walk. Right fielder Roman Pena cleared the bases with a double to center field. Designated hitter Matt Brown reached on a walk and eventually scored along with Pena on a triple from Karexon Sanchez. He came home on a ground ball to the right side from Jeff Hehr.
The Captains put up another four runs in the fourth inning, and single runs in the sixth and eighth. Lake County's final run came off a Roman Pena home run, his fourth of the year.
