Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - The Asheville Tourists rebounded from a 2-0 deficit in the middle innings and defeated the Greenville Drive 5-3 on Tuesday in game two of a four-game set.
Asheville's (17-25) comeback began with an RBI single from Matt McLaughlin in the bottom of the fifth, and RBI singles in the sixth from Ramon Marcelino and Ryan Vilade off Marcos Lantigua (0-5) put them ahead for good.
The Drive (10-33) took advantage of an Asheville error in the top of the third, and Marino Campana followed the error by smacking a two-run double to center.
Both starting pitchers were strong on Tuesday night. Denyi Reyes took a no-decision for Greenville despite striking out seven over five innings and allowing just one run. Antonio Santos (1-5) got the win for Asheville after allowing two unearned runs in six and two-third innings with six strikeouts.
The Tourists scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth after a Drive error and another RBI hit from McLaughlin.
The top of the ninth saw the Drive make the game interesting. After a single by Zach Sterry and another Asheville miscue, Samuel Miranda singled home Sterry to cut the lead to two, but Tommy Doyle retired the final Greenville hitter to log his fourth save.
Campana and Cedrola notched two hits apiece for the Drive.
The teams will have a quick turnaround with a 10:35 AM first pitch on Wednesday in Asheville. The Drive will send right-hander Kutter Crawford (0-2, 1.94) to the mound, and left-hander Lucas Gilbreath (3-2, 8.07) is the starter for the Tourists.
