
Lexington Legends Fall in Game Two Facing Rome Braves

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - Coming off a monstrous win last night, the Lexington Legends were doubled up by the Rome Braves in the second game of the series, 10-5. The Legends record now falls to 22-20 while Rome improves to 27-17.
The Braves began their scoring spree in the top of the second inning. William Contreras drew a lead off walk then moved to second on a single by Jefrey Ramos. With runners at first and second, Carlos Martinez singled Contreras home, scoring the first run of the game for Rome. Justin Smith then joined Ramos on the base path after a fielding error by Lexington's second baseman, Ricky Aracena. Martinez then scored on an RBI single up the middle by Austin Bush. Smith crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to second base by Derian Cruz, furthering Rome's lead over Lexington, 4-0. Cruz scored the final run of the inning on an RBI single to right field by Drew Waters and the Braves led 5-0 after the second.
The Legends scored their first runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brewer Hicklen drew a leadoff walk then was brought home by an RBI double off the right field wall by Dennicher Carrasco to put the Legends on the board, 5-1. Dennicher Carrasco then moved to third on a single by Cristian Perez. Aracena brought them both home, and the Legends pulled within two runs, 5-3.
Rome had another five-run inning in the top of the sixth. Riley Delgado and Jean Carlos Encarnacion reached on back-to-back singles then an error by Carrsco loaded the baseball. Ramos then brought home Delgado and Encarnacion to extend the Braves' lead 7-3. Justin Smith then stepped up and hit a three-run homer to left field, putting Rome ahead, 10-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, Sebastian Rivero drew a walk then was doubled home by Perez, but the Legends still trailed 10-4.
The Legends scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the ninth. Travis Jones and Melendez hit back-to-back singles to start off the inning. Travis Jones scored on a hard hit, line drive down the left field line by Nick Pratto, to put the final run on the board, 10-5.
Bruce Zimmermann was awarded the win for the Braves tossing 5.0 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out seven. Nolan Watson was given the loss, pitching 5.0 innings allowing five runs (one earned) on nine hits while walking two and striking out three.
The Legends and Braves meet for game three tomorrow, May 23 at 1:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legend will send RHP Carlos Hernandez (2-1, 2.19 ERA) to face Rome's RHP Odalvi Javier (1-1, 4.12 ERA).
