Lancaster Stormers News Release

Talk about opposite ends of the baseball spectrum.

Three bunts and three blasts helped the Camden Riversharks score nine unanswered runs in the second half of Wednesday night's game at Clipper Magazine Stadium, dumping the host Barnstormers, 9-5, in the finale of a three-game series.

With Lancaster leading, 5-0, in the fifth inning, Ron Davenport blasted a two-out solo homer to right off starter Eric Ackerman who had breezed up until that point.

That seemed harmless enough until the Riversharks sixth. Erick San Pedro singled to center, and Chris Walker followed with a bunt base hit to put two runners aboard. Gary Cates followed with a bunt to the third base side of the mound on which Ackerman's throw sailed above Juan Francia covering first. The errant throw allowed San Pedro to score and put runners at second and third with no one out. An infield out by Brett Bonvechio and a single to right by Josh Rabe cut the Lancaster lead to 5-4.

Ross Peeples (0-1) fell victim to the long ball in the seventh. With one out, Gabe Suarez picked up a four-pitch walk. San Pedro reached the canopies above the picnic pavilion for his first homer of the season and a 6-5 lead. Walker followed with a booming homer to left as Camden pulled ahead by two.

San Pedro opened the ninth with a bloop single to left. Walker laid down a bunt, and, this time, it was reliever Robert Averette who skipped the ball down the right field line, eventually leading to two more Camden runs.

Alec Zumwalt polished off the Barnstormers, striking out five over the final three innings to record his third save. Robert Romero (1-0) notched the win.

Ian Bladergroen doubled home a run in the first, and Manny Mejia slugged a solo homer in the second for a 2-0 lead. Lancaster was able to build on that in the fourth as Mike Woods grounded a two-run single up the middle, and Lloyd Turner brought another run home with an infield base hit for the 5-0 edge.

NOTES: Woods extended his hitting streak to 10 games...He has batted safely in every game he has played so far...Turner has hit safely in five straight as has Bladergroen...Bladergroen drove in five runs in the series, all with first inning doubles...The homers by San Pedro and Walker were the first back-to-back shots off the Barnstormers since Luke Allen and Teuris Olivares of Somerset hit consecutive homers off Barry Armitage on September 8, 2007...The Barnstormers open a four-game series at Newark on Thursday evening at 7:05...Jeff Muessig, who was acquired from Joliet (Northern League) earlier in the day will start for Lancaster against right-hander Pat Stanley (0-0).
