St. Lucie Mets News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Tortugas snapped a four-game losing streak by edging the St. Lucie Mets 4-3 on Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Manny Rodriguez hit a two-run homer for the Mets with one out in the top of the fourth to give the Mets a 3-2. The Tortugas pitching staff then retired the next 17 Mets in a row to end the game.

Hendrick Clementina hit a two-run single off of Luc Rennie in the sixth inning to put the Tortugas ahead by the final margin, 4-3.

The Mets mustered just five total hits. Rodriguez went 2 for 3. The home run was his first of the year. He also hit a double.

Jacob Zanon put the Mets on the board in the first inning with a two-out RBI triple.

Rennie looked to have the third out of the fourth inning when Alejo Lopez hit a fly ball into center field, but Hansel Moreno misjudged the ball and it wound up going for a triple. The next batter Bryant Flete hit a two-run homer to put Daytona ahead 2-1.

Rennie took the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) in six innings.

Marcel Renteria was the only reliever used by the Mets. He tossed two scoreless innings.

Daytona starter Austin Orewiler survived the hard contact earlier and received a no-decision. He gave up three runs in five innings.

The bullpen for Daytona was perfect. Michael Byrne set down all seven batters he faced for 2.1 innings. He was credited with win.

Lefty Andy Cox retired Mets lefty hitters Carlos Cortes and Jeremy Vasquez to finish out the eighth.

Connor Bennett pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first FSL save.

The victory for the Tortugas was their first in six tries against the Mets this season.

The Mets (28-16, 60-50) and Tortugas (20-24, 55-54) finish their series on Sunday with a rubber game. First pitch at Jackie Robinson Ballpark is slated for 5:35 p.m.
