RENO, Nev.- Matt Torra allowed just one earned run over 8.1 innings of work Friday night, lifting the Reno Aces to a 6-2 win over the Nashville Sounds at Aces Ballpark.
Reno has now won three-straight games, with a series sweep on the line Saturday night.
The Aces took an early 6-0 lead through three innings, and Torra (8-6) took care of the rest. The right-hander took a shutout into the ninth and finished with eight hits and two runs-one earned-scattered over 8.1 frames. Torra walked one and punched out two in a 106-pitch effort. Jose Marte came on with one out in the ninth and recorded the final two outs of the ballgame.
At the dish for Reno, Ryan Roberts led the way with three hits, a run and an RBI. Tony Abreu singled and doubled, while driving in three runs. Brandon Allen and Cole Gillespie added two hits apiece, while Jeff Bailey drew a walk to extend his home on-base streak to a franchise-high 34-straight games.
Sounds starter Marty McLeary (5-7) took the loss Friday, surrendering six runs-five earned-on 10 hits over five innings of work.
Defensively, the Aces flipped four double plays on the night.
The Aces look for the series sweep over Nashville on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (3-3, 4.15 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while LHP Sam Narron (7-4, 3.50 ERA) counters for the Sounds. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT
