
Toros Win Close One at Cedar Park Center

Austin, TX Jan. 26, 2011 - The Austin Toros edged by the Reno Bighorns Wednesday in a matinee game at Cedar Park Center in front of a crowd of over 2,600 fans. Marcus Cousin led the Toros in scoring with 22 points and seven rebounds as the Toros won a close one 97-95.
The Toros ended the first quarter trailing the Bighorns by four points despite seeing a seven-point lead and a 10-0 run in the middle of the quarter. The Toros quickly caught up to the Bighorns at the beginning of the second quarter tying the score at 25-25. The first half saw seven ties, six lead changes and the Bighorns led at the break 43-42. Marcus Cousin led all scorers at the half with 13 first half points.
The Toros and Bighorns continued to go back and forth throughout the third period. The Toros were able to score nine points off four Bighorn turnovers that helped the Toros in their third quarter charge. The tug of war battle continued into the fourth quarter and with five seconds left, the Toros took a four-point lead. Donald Sloan kept the Bighorns alive, however, in the second half by scoring 17 of his total 21 points in the last two periods. The game was tied at 93 after two made free throws by Leo Lyons with 1:17 left to play. Marcus Cousin caught a lob from Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson scoring the game winning points. With 1.6 seconds left in the game, the Bighorns were unable to tie the score.
The Bighorns' Danny Green and the Toros' Marcus Cousin led all scorers with 22 points. Donald Sloan (21) and Jeremy Lin (19) followed Green for the Bighorns as Lance Thomas (17) and Aubrey Coleman (13) rounded out the scoring for the Toros. Toros affiliate San Antonio Spurs assigned James Anderson, 6-6, 215 pound guard from Oklahoma State University. Anderson played 12 minutes and contributed 12 points and two rebounds to the Toros final score.
The Toros (11-13) will face off against the New Mexico Thunderbirds Thursday, January 27 at Cedar Park Center at 7:30 p.m., the second of a four game home stretch. The Toros will play the Thunderbirds again on Saturday, January 29 and then face the Utah Flash Sunday, January 30. The Reno Bighorns (15-12) will play the Bakersfield Jam Friday, January 28.
